Dale E. Jones is the President and Chief Executive Officer of Diversified Search. His responsibilities include oversight and management of the firm and its global CEO Advisory Services.

A native of Dallas, Jones was the son of a shoe cobbler/janitor and a kindergarten teacher; beginning at age 10, young Dale would often join his dad and brother on weekends cleaning office buildings. Advised by a family pastor and influenced by the fact that the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King had attended there, Jones enrolled at Atlanta’s Morehouse College. He began his career in banking, before moving into executive search as a managing partner in the Atlanta office of Heidrick & Struggles International in 1999. Always looking for ways to give back, Jones took a hiatus from the search industry in 2007, relocating to Washington, D.C. to lead a philanthropic foundation, endowed by AOL founder Steve Case and his wife, Jean, that was dedicated to finding clean water in Africa.

Jones returned to executive search in 2009, rejoining Heidrick & Struggles to serve as Vice Chairman and Partner of the CEO and Board Practice, where he consulted CEOs and corporate boards on human capital issues including recruiting, retention, succession planning, and corporate governance. He also served as one of the firm’s leaders in the Global Communications and Global Consumer Practice, and was later asked to oversee the CEO and Board Practice in the Americas.

In 2013, when founder Judith M. von Seldeneck moved into the role of Chairman at Diversified Search, Jones was named the firm’s new President and CEO, based in Washington, D.C. His philosophy on great leadership is simple: “I think it is important that leaders have the ability to inspire and motivate people and to lead by example. I think the best leaders have been through some testing in their journey, so that they can really empathize, not only with the people that they lead, but with their customers.”

Jones is a member of several notable national corporate and philanthropic boards, most notably those of Northwestern Mutual, Kohl’s Inc., Princeton Theological Seminary, and his alma mater, Morehouse College. He formerly served as National Advisory Board Vice Chairman for The Salvation Army.

Mazza began her career with Diversified—and with the search industry itself—in 1981 as the company’s very first Director of Research, over time developing, refining, and managing the company’s key research and recruiting functions and processes. Over her years at Diversified she has been responsible not only for the oversight and management of the firm’s researchers, recruiters, and databases, but perhaps more important, for their quality as well.

In her current role, Mazza is responsible for the planning, administration, and monitoring of consistent search quality within the firm, and for continually seeking improvements in operations that can achieve even more effective and efficient searches. Just as important, she is responsible for inculcating cultural imperatives—the very values that guide Diversified—to both our employees and our clients. In addition, she conducts select searches as designated by the Chairman and/or CEO; investigates and reviews new methodologies and technologies; and oversees the firm’s internal talent management, from identifying and recruiting in-house professionals across administrative functions to developing, implementing, and assessing processes related to employees’ orientation and onboarding, training, performance, and compensation.

Mazza is a Certified Practitioner of MBTI (Myers-Briggs Type Indicator) and has completed the Leadership Program of The Leaders Lyceum. A member of the Philadelphia Film Society, she was also a Founding Member of the Philadelphia Executive Search Research Roundtable.

Chris Berger joined Diversified Search in 2017 to co-lead the firm’s Human Resources practice, after seven successful years as co-owner of the successful boutique HR executive search firm RomanoBerger LLC. Berger brings close to 20 years of executive search experience focused in the Human Resources arena, and 10 years in HR on the corporate side. He has completed hundreds of senior executive search assignments across all functional areas of human resources and across multiple industry sectors. His clients have ranged from Fortune 50 multinationals to startups.

Berger entered the executive search profession in 1999 when he was recruited into Korn/Ferry International’s Human Resources practice, and quickly became a leading member of the execution team. Several years later, he co-founded the Human Resources practice at TMP Worldwide (later Highland Partners). When TMP was acquired by Heidrick & Struggles, Berger was recruited to further develop the HR practice at CTPartners.

Berger began his career at May Department Stores, completing the company’s highly regarded Executive Training Program. He served briefly as an assistant buyer before entering human resources, where he led merchant training, corporate communications, college relations, and executive recruiting for a May division. In 1995, he was recruited by Melville/CVS Corporation, where, as HR Generalist, he recruited leadership roles before becoming Vice President of Corporate Human Resources and Staffing. Berger was briefly recruited back to the corporate side during his search career to become head of the executive recruiting for insurance giant Aetna.

The leader of the firm’s Board practice, J. Veronica Biggins  brings more than 15 years of search experience to the firm—including several years working in the White House.

Biggins served as Assistant to the President of the United States and Director of Presidential Personnel under Bill Clinton, a role that tasked her with selecting and hiring all political appointees within the federal government. She worked directly with the President on appointments at all levels of the administration, including the placement of agency heads, ambassadors, and members of presidential boards and commissions.

Biggins has also served as Vice-Chairman of the U.S. Delegation to the United Nations Fourth World Conference on Women in Beijing. She also served as Chairman of the Czech Slovak American Enterprise Fund—a role that earned her a Points of Light Award from President George W. Bush for her leadership.

Biggins’ background also includes 20 years’ experience with NationsBank (now Bank of America) and its predecessor, The Citizens, and Southern National Bank. There, as Executive Vice President for Human Resources, she was one of the highest-ranking women in the banking industry.

Judy Boreham is a Managing Director at Diversified Search, where she manages a broad range of clients including those in the corporate and nonprofit sectors. Prior to joining Diversified Search in 1995, Boreham worked for a search firm in Central London serving the consumer market. Working with a portfolio of blue-chip international clients such as Kraft, Duracell, McKinsey, AC Nielson, Guinness, and SmithKline Beecham, she managed key business assignments across the United Kingdom.

Prior to her search career, Boreham held various business and marketing leadership positions with the largest and fastest-growing division of Baxter Healthcare, Inc., where she was responsible for launching a range of product lines that gained worldwide recognition, and more recently as Business Manager for the Critical Care division at Johnson & Johnson, where she was responsible for the development of a patient monitoring technology product in the provider healthcare space.

Julie Kanak serves as a Managing Director in the firm’s Chicago office, where she contributes expertise in global business, banking, and natural resources. Prior to joining Diversified Search, Kanak spent four years with a leading global search firm and boutique global agribusiness firm. That work complemented her 26 years in banking and corporate finance, where she principally focused on agribusiness, food, and energy. The bulk of her global corporate and investment banking career was spent as North American head of AgriFoods at Credit Agricole Corporate and Investment Bank. Her career also includes more than 10 years as a global banker and senior executive with Australia and New Zealand Banking Group, and State Bank of South Australia in New York and Chicago.

Jim Langston is a Managing Director and leader of the Financial Officers practice at Diversified Search. After beginning his career in public accounting, Langston spent eight years with Prudential Financial in audit, finance, and treasury operations. He later founded a consultancy providing succession and estate plans for business owners and high-net-worth individuals and families. His executive search career began in 1995 with an at-that-time boutique firm—now Kenexa—where he was instrumental in starting their retained Financial Officers practice. He was later a Managing Director with both Heidrick & Struggles and Korn/Ferry, continuing to focus on Financial Officer searches. Although his business has often focused on Fortune 1,000 clients, working at the director, VP, and C-suite levels, he also works with international early-stage and venture-backed organizations to identify and recruit world-class management talent.

Langston’s process is built on his varied and unique business experience. Using a consultative approach, insight, and intuition to understand an organization’s dynamics and operating environment, he identifies leadership that is best suited to its particular needs. Tony Leng is a Managing Director of Diversified Search and leads the firm’s CIO/IT practice from its San Francisco office. Previously, he was Managing Partner of Hodge Partners. Leng has conducted many C-suite-level searches for organizations where leaders are transforming and/or building organizations that are taking advantage of digital technologies. His clients have included Aurora Healthcare; Axalta; Catholic Health Initiatives; Blue Shield of California; Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan; Delta Dental; Dignity Health; Esurance; Kaiser Permanente; Novant Health; PG&E; Polycom; Sutter Health; Symmetricom; TE Connectivity; and Wellmark.

Prior to joining the field of executive search, Leng was a board member of three public companies and CEO of a $600 million public company. Prior to that, he ran a $1 billion division of a telephone company focused on corporate users and had responsibility for all data services and networking products. While at the telephone company, he was founder and chairman of its ISP and a board member of its two-million-subscriber cell phone subsidiary.

Leng uses his operating experience from being a CEO, financial background as a CPA and CA, and technical knowledge from the work that he has done for tech companies to drill down and understand at a nuanced level what his clients are seeking to achieve as they build their teams. His 25-plus-year search career has encompassed assignments for major investment and commercial banks, national consulting and investment companies, and senior-level work in manufacturing, technology, healthcare, education, and nonprofit. He has completed numerous C-suite searches and has had extensive experience in recruiting directors for both public and private company boards.

Prior to his career in search, MacLean spent more than two decades in finance, most recently as Senior Vice President and General Manager of New York operations of M&T Bancorp. Before that, he spent 20 years with Brown Brothers Harriman & Co., an international private bank headquartered in New York City. His tenure there covered assignments in lending, operations, treasury and foreign exchange management, and consulting. In his last role, he was Manager of the firm’s International Banking Division; he previously managed the banking operations in the firm’s Philadelphia office.

John Mestepey is the Managing Director of the Miami Office of Diversified Search. Earlier, he ran the Miami Office of Edward Kelley & Partners, and for 19 years was the Managing Director of the Miami Office of A.T. Kearney Executive Search.

Mentioned as one of the top 250 executive search professionals in the U.S. in “The New Career Makers,” Mestepey has focused his practice on key management assignments at the Board of Directors, CEO, COO and CFO levels across many industries, including the restaurant, retail, consumer products, financial services, healthcare, higher education, travel and leisure, technology, and biopharmaceutical sectors, among others.
Mestepey began his career in recruiting with AETNA Life & Casualty, where he was Director of Recruiting. He later co-led the in-house executive search firm, Career Development Corporation, at Lincoln National.

Patrick Prout is the leader of the Financial Services practice at Diversified Search, and serves as a member of the Industrial and Board practices.

Prior to joining Diversified Search, Prout had launched his own executive search organization, The Prout Group. In addition to his daily oversight and management of the firm, he conducted senior-level search assignments in its Industrial/Manufacturing, Nonprofit, Corporate Board, and Corporate Infrastructure practices.

Prior to founding his own firm, Prout served as a partner in the Cleveland office of Heidrick & Struggles, where he was a member of the Financial Services, Diversity, Chief Financial Officer, and Industrial practices. Additionally, he also conducted successful searches for clients in the insurance, manufacturing, telecommunications, entertainment, and sports fields.

He also has eight years of experience in healthcare consulting with one of the world’s largest management consulting firms, where he focused on organizational change and human capital strategy as an advisor to senior executives in Fortune 500 companies.

Pruett joined Diversified from Morgan Samuels Company, a retained search firm where he established the Chicago office and was a Partner and National Practice Leader.  Prior to that, he was a Senior Client Partner at Korn/Ferry International, where he successfully completed retained searches for leading U.S. companies within the Global Financial Services practice. Pruett has also worked with Equinox Partners, a boutique retained search firm, and Russell Reynolds Associates in the Professional Services, Consumer, and Financial Services practices.

Pruett began his career with Accenture (Andersen Consulting), where he focused in healthcare and life sciences as a management consultant working directly with senior executives and other business leaders to address needs in human capital strategy, organizational change and development, and change strategy.

Leslie “Les” Stern is based in Diversified Search’s Chicago office, where he leads the firm’s internal efforts to recruit seasoned managing directors into its practices. He has over 40 years of experience in executive search, both as an entrepreneur running a successful firm and as a partner with global firms.

Previously, Stern was with CTPartners, where he was primarily responsible for strategically building the professional ranks. He was charged with broadening the geographic reach of the firm and identifying and staffing practice areas to support efforts throughout the world.

Stern’s search career began when he established Stern Associates, a firm he led for 25 years. He merged his firm with Ward Howell, where he headed the Financial Services practice. Later he joined Sullivan & Company, which was eventually acquired by Heidrick & Struggles. During his career with Heidrick, Stern specialized in conducting senior-level searches in the financial services industry.

Stern has received several notable recognitions for his work in the financial sector, including being named in Who’s Who in Finance and Industry, and making Crain’s list of the “100 Most Influential Business Leaders in New York.”

Prior to joining Diversified Search, Dorsey Robinson served as Public Relations Manager for the office of Cleveland Mayor Frank Jackson. Later, she joined JumpStart, a nationally recognized venture development firm, where she helped expand its fledgling national consulting business, and guided leaders in translating regional assets, opportunities, and objectives into detailed plans that would drive economic development and entrepreneurship.
