Judith M. von Seldeneck is the Founder and Chairman of Diversified Search, headquartered in Philadelphia. A pioneer in the search industry, she has been identifying and placing senior-level executive talent around the country for more than four decades.

A born-and-bred North Carolinian, she began her career as an executive assistant to then-Senator Walter F. Mondale in Washington, D.C. Her road into executive search commenced in the early 1970s when she bought into a small Philadelphia firm founded to find temp jobs for women. Buying out her partners in 1974, over the next several decades von Seldeneck built Diversified Search into one of the top ten executive search firms in the nation.

During the course of her career, von Seldeneck has been recognized by the executive search industry as setting the standard for retained executive search and has been active on numerous public, private, and not-for-profit boards of directors. Some of these include the National Association of Corporate Directors, Philadelphia Chapter (Chair); Citizens Financial Group; Tasty Baking Company; CoreStates Financial Group; Meridian Bancorp; and AAA MidAtlantic. She currently serves on the Comcast and NBC Universal Joint Diversity Council and is Chairperson of the Women’s Advisory Council. She was also a founder of the Forum of Executive Women, the largest association of women business leaders in the Philadelphia region.

She has been the recipient of dozens of awards and honors recognizing her achievements both professionally and philanthropically. These include the Association of Executive Search Consultants’ Eleanor H. Raynolds Award for Excellence in Executive Search; being designated as one of BusinessWeek’s Top 50 Most Influential Executive Recruiters in the World; induction into the Philadelphia Business Hall of Fame; and receiving the William Penn Award, the highest honor bestowed by the business community of Greater Philadelphia.

Dale E. Jones is the President and Chief Executive Officer of Diversified Search. His responsibilities include oversight and management of the firm and its global CEO Advisory Services.

A native of Dallas, Jones was the son of a shoe cobbler/janitor and a kindergarten teacher; beginning at age 10, young Dale would often join his dad and brother on weekends cleaning office buildings. Advised by a family pastor and influenced by the fact that the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King had attended there, Jones enrolled at Atlanta’s Morehouse College. He began his career in banking, before moving into executive search as a managing partner in the Atlanta office of Heidrick & Struggles International in 1999. Always looking for ways to give back, Jones took a hiatus from the search industry in 2007, relocating to Washington, D.C. to lead a philanthropic foundation, endowed by AOL founder Steve Case and his wife, Jean, that was dedicated to finding clean water in Africa.

Jones returned to executive search in 2009, rejoining Heidrick & Struggles to serve as Vice Chairman and Partner of the CEO and Board Practice, where he consulted CEOs and corporate boards on human capital issues including recruiting, retention, succession planning, and corporate governance. He also served as one of the firm’s leaders in the Global Communications and Global Consumer Practice, and was later asked to oversee the CEO and Board Practice in the Americas.

In 2013, when founder Judith M. von Seldeneck moved into the role of Chairman at Diversified Search, Jones was named the firm’s new President and CEO, based in Washington, D.C. His philosophy on great leadership is simple: “I think it is important that leaders have the ability to inspire and motivate people and to lead by example. I think the best leaders have been through some testing in their journey, so that they can really empathize, not only with the people that they lead, but with their customers.”

Jones is a member of several notable national corporate and philanthropic boards, most notably those of Northwestern Mutual, Kohl’s Inc., Princeton Theological Seminary, and his alma mater, Morehouse College. He formerly served as National Advisory Board Vice Chairman for The Salvation Army.

Mazza began her career with Diversified—and with the search industry itself—in 1981 as the company’s very first Director of Research, over time developing, refining, and managing the company’s key research and recruiting functions and processes. Over her years at Diversified she has been responsible not only for the oversight and management of the firm’s researchers, recruiters, and databases, but perhaps more important, for their quality as well.

In her current role, Mazza is responsible for the planning, administration, and monitoring of consistent search quality within the firm, and for continually seeking improvements in operations that can achieve even more effective and efficient searches. Just as important, she is responsible for inculcating cultural imperatives—the very values that guide Diversified—to both our employees and our clients. In addition, she conducts select searches as designated by the Chairman and/or CEO; investigates and reviews new methodologies and technologies; and oversees the firm’s internal talent management, from identifying and recruiting in-house professionals across administrative functions to developing, implementing, and assessing processes related to employees’ orientation and onboarding, training, performance, and compensation.

Mazza is a Certified Practitioner of MBTI (Myers-Briggs Type Indicator) and has completed the Leadership Program of The Leaders Lyceum. A member of the Philadelphia Film Society, she was also a Founding Member of the Philadelphia Executive Search Research Roundtable.

Cynthia P. Barth is a Consultant at Diversified Search. Her practice encompasses searches for emerging and senior leadership positions for not-for-profit healthcare and human services organizations. Barth has extensive experience in working with search committees to identify accountabilities, to assess candidates against those accountabilities, and to facilitate and discipline the recruitment process. She is the founder of the firm’s preferred provider relationship with Lutheran Services in America and is a member of Diversified’s Quality Team.

Barth has 30 years of experience in not-for-profit health care and human services search. She joined Diversified in 1997. Previously she had been Vice President and Principal of Longshore + Simmons, a regional executive healthcare search and consulting firm. From 1974 until 1980, Barth held a faculty appointment at Hahnemann Medical College in physiology and biophysics.

Chris Berger joined Diversified Search in 2017 to co-lead the firm’s Human Resources practice, after seven successful years as co-owner of the successful boutique HR executive search firm RomanoBerger LLC. Berger brings close to 20 years of executive search experience focused in the Human Resources arena, and 10 years in HR on the corporate side. He has completed hundreds of senior executive search assignments across all functional areas of human resources and across multiple industry sectors. His clients have ranged from Fortune 50 multinationals to startups.

Berger entered the executive search profession in 1999 when he was recruited into Korn/Ferry International’s Human Resources practice, and quickly became a leading member of the execution team. Several years later, he co-founded the Human Resources practice at TMP Worldwide (later Highland Partners). When TMP was acquired by Heidrick & Struggles, Berger was recruited to further develop the HR practice at CTPartners.

Berger began his career at May Department Stores, completing the company’s highly regarded Executive Training Program. He served briefly as an assistant buyer before entering human resources, where he led merchant training, corporate communications, college relations, and executive recruiting for a May division. In 1995, he was recruited by Melville/CVS Corporation, where, as HR Generalist, he recruited leadership roles before becoming Vice President of Corporate Human Resources and Staffing. Berger was briefly recruited back to the corporate side during his search career to become head of the executive recruiting for insurance giant Aetna.

The leader of the firm’s Board practice, J. Veronica Biggins  brings more than 15 years of search experience to the firm—including several years working in the White House.

Biggins served as Assistant to the President of the United States and Director of Presidential Personnel under Bill Clinton, a role that tasked her with selecting and hiring all political appointees within the federal government. She worked directly with the President on appointments at all levels of the administration, including the placement of agency heads, ambassadors, and members of presidential boards and commissions.

Biggins has also served as Vice-Chairman of the U.S. Delegation to the United Nations Fourth World Conference on Women in Beijing. She also served as Chairman of the Czech Slovak American Enterprise Fund—a role that earned her a Points of Light Award from President George W. Bush for her leadership.

Biggins’ background also includes 20 years’ experience with NationsBank (now Bank of America) and its predecessor, The Citizens, and Southern National Bank. There, as Executive Vice President for Human Resources, she was one of the highest-ranking women in the banking industry.

Judy Boreham is a Managing Director at Diversified Search, where she manages a broad range of clients including those in the corporate and nonprofit sectors. Prior to her search career, Boreham held various business and marketing leadership positions with the largest and fastest-growing division of Baxter Healthcare, Inc., where she was responsible for launching a range of product lines that gained worldwide recognition, and more recently as Business Manager for the Critical Care division at Johnson & Johnson, where she was responsible for the development of a patient monitoring technology product in the provider healthcare space.

Anthony J. Frick, Esq., currently serves as a Senior Advisor at Diversified Search. In this capacity, he leads select healthcare consulting and executive search engagements. In addition to his role with Diversified, Frick serves as President and CEO of GlobalFit, a health and wellness technology company.

Frick joined Diversified Search in January 2013 and previously held the role of Managing Director and Vice President & General Counsel. As a Managing Director, he worked across the firm’s practice areas in the development and delivery of quality, high-level search assignments.

He produced significant growth in Diversified Search’s healthcare practice, leading high-profile and visible senior executive and board-level searches for some of the nation’s largest health insurers, while also managing and expanding significant client relationships. Frick also participated in the expansion of Diversified Search’s services into the areas of human capital, succession planning, and executive onboarding consulting, which continues to position Diversified Search as a leading executive search firm for the healthcare industry.

As Vice President & General Counsel, he provided legal oversight and counsel in the operation of the firm. Frick was also part of the team that grew the firm by leading the structuring and negotiation of strategic acquisitions of peer executive search firms.

Frick was previously at Dechert LLP, an international law firm, where he focused his practice on mergers and acquisitions, private equity transactions, corporate finance and public company reporting and governance issues. He also regularly advised clients on the full range of general corporate and securities matters. Prior to Dechert, he served as a legal clerk for the U.S. House of Representatives’ Committee on House Administration. Joseph A. Frick joined Diversified Search in May 2011, where he held the role of Executive Vice Chairman until October 2016. Today he serves as Senior Advisor. During his tenure, he has provided advisory services to CEOs and conducted senior executive and corporate board searches for a range of clients in business, education, and healthcare. He has also been actively engaged in the firm’s business strategy, branding, and expansion initiatives.

Prior to joining Diversified, Frick served as President and CEO of Independence Blue Cross (IBC), where he spearheaded the creation of IBC 2010, a long-term strategic plan for the company. He formed a new senior leadership team and launched key initiatives to achieve company goals. Under his leadership, IBC enhanced its standing as a trusted and respected corporate leader in the Philadelphia community.

Before becoming CEO in 2005, Frick served as Independence Blue Cross’s Senior Vice President of Human Resources and Administration. In this capacity, he was responsible for corporate planning and business development, human resources, and administrative services. Cynthia Price Heckscher is a Managing Director with Diversified Search, and is the founder of the firm’s Healthcare Services practice.

Heckscher has developed a consultative search practice which focuses on senior executive, clinician, and governance searches for large, nonprofit, and/or faith-based healthcare systems, academic medical centers, and specialty hospitals nationwide. Most of her search assignments involve working with boards and search committees in the selection of chief executive officers and other C-Suite executives for multi-site organizations at the regional, statewide, or national level. She has more than 130 CEO searches to her credit. She has also worked closely with clients in their respective efforts to recruit, retain, and develop diverse leadership talent. In response to her clients’ interest in utilizing core competencies for leadership development and selection purposes, Heckscher has completed training in behavior event/core competency interviewing with the Hay Group.

Prior to joining Diversified Search, Heckscher served as the Director of Research and Program Development for the Health Federation of Philadelphia, a nonprofit health planning organization, where she designed and implemented programs to address the healthcare needs of medically underserved and/or uninsured women and children in the city. In addition to her earlier experience as a case worker at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center’s Neurological Institute, she served as a social worker and the coordinator of the statewide Child Development Program for Dartmouth Medical School from 1976 to 1985.

Over the years, Heckscher has served on numerous boards with a focus on healthcare and children with developmental disabilities. A board member of the Daughters of Charity Foundation in St. Louis for 10 years, she also previously served on the boards of the Harriott O. Landenberger Medical Research Foundation and Chestnut Hill Health Care.

Jim Langston is a Managing Director and leader of the Financial Officers practice at Diversified Search. After beginning his career in public accounting, Langston spent eight years with Prudential Financial in audit, finance, and treasury operations. He later founded a consultancy providing succession and estate plans for business owners and high-net-worth individuals and families. His executive search career began in 1995 with an at-that-time boutique firm—now Kenexa—where he was instrumental in starting their retained Financial Officers practice. He was later a Managing Director with both Heidrick & Struggles and Korn/Ferry, continuing to focus on Financial Officer searches. Although his business has often focused on Fortune 1,000 clients, working at the director, VP, and C-suite levels, he also works with international early-stage and venture-backed organizations to identify and recruit world-class management talent.

Langston’s process is built on his varied and unique business experience. Using a consultative approach, insight, and intuition to understand an organization’s dynamics and operating environment, he identifies leadership that is best suited to its particular needs. Tony Leng is a Managing Director of Diversified Search and leads the firm’s CIO/IT practice from its San Francisco office. Previously, he was Managing Partner of Hodge Partners. Leng uses his operating experience from being a CEO, financial background as a CPA and CA, and technical knowledge from the work that he has done for tech companies to drill down and understand at a nuanced level what his clients are seeking to achieve as they build their teams.
