Founder and Chair

Judith M. von Seldeneck is the Founder and Chair of Diversified Search, headquartered in Philadelphia. A pioneer in the search industry, she has been identifying and placing senior-level executive talent around the country for more than four decades.

A born-and-bred North Carolinian, she began her career as an executive assistant to then-Senator Walter F. Mondale in Washington, D.C. Her road into executive search commenced in the early 1970s when she bought into a small Philadelphia firm founded to find temp jobs for women. Buying out her partners in 1974, over the next several decades von Seldeneck built Diversified Search into one of the top ten executive search firms in the nation.

During the course of her career, von Seldeneck has been recognized by the executive search industry as setting the standard for retained executive search and has been active on numerous public, private, and not-for-profit boards of directors. Some of these include Citizens Financial Group; Tasty Baking Company; Teleflex, Inc.; CoreStates Financial Group; Meridian Bancorp; and AAA MidAtlantic.  She has also served as Chair for the Philadelphia Chapter of the National Association of Corporate Directors. She currently serves on the Comcast and NBC Universal Joint Diversity Council and is Chairperson of the Women’s Advisory Council. She was also a founder of the Forum of Executive Women, the largest association of women business leaders in the Philadelphia region.

She has been the recipient of dozens of awards and honors recognizing her achievements both professionally and philanthropically. These include the William Penn Award, the highest honor bestowed by the business community of Greater Philadelphia; the Association of Executive Search Consultants’ Eleanor H. Raynolds Award for Excellence in Executive Search; being designated as one of BusinessWeek’s Top 50 Most Influential Executive Recruiters in the World; and induction into the Philadelphia Business Hall of Fame. She is also a Global Board Member of AltoPartners.

Dale E. Jones is the Chief Executive Officer of Diversified Search. His responsibilities include oversight and management of the firm and its global CEO Advisory Services.

A native of Dallas, Jones was the son of a shoe cobbler/janitor and a kindergarten teacher; beginning at age 10, young Dale would often join his dad and brother on weekends cleaning office buildings. Advised by a family pastor and influenced by the fact that the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King had attended there, Jones enrolled at Atlanta’s Morehouse College. He began his career in banking, before moving into executive search as a managing partner in the Atlanta office of Heidrick & Struggles International in 1999. Always looking for ways to give back, Jones took a hiatus from the search industry in 2007, relocating to Washington, D.C. to lead a philanthropic foundation, endowed by AOL founder Steve Case and his wife, Jean, that was dedicated to finding clean water in Africa.

Jones returned to executive search in 2009, rejoining Heidrick & Struggles to serve as Vice Chairman and Partner of the CEO and Board Practice, where he consulted CEOs and corporate boards on human capital issues including recruiting, retention, succession planning, and corporate governance. He also served as one of the firm’s leaders in the Global Communications and Global Consumer Practice, and was later asked to oversee the CEO and Board Practice in the Americas.

In 2013, when founder Judith M. von Seldeneck moved into the role of Chairman at Diversified Search, Jones was named the firm’s new CEO, based in Washington, D.C. His philosophy on great leadership is simple: “I think it is important that leaders have the ability to inspire and motivate people and to lead by example. I think the best leaders have been through some testing in their journey, so that they can really empathize, not only with the people that they lead, but with their customers.”

Jones is a member of several notable national corporate and philanthropic boards, most notably those of Northwestern Mutual, Kohl’s Inc., Princeton Theological Seminary, and his alma mater, Morehouse College. He is also a Global Board Member of AltoPartners. He formerly served as National Advisory Board Vice Chairman for The Salvation Army.

Katie Bouton is the President of Diversified Search, a role she assumed following Diversified Search’s 2019 acquisition of Koya Leadership Partners, where she remains in the role of Founder and CEO. Bouton established Koya in 2004 to recruit talented leaders to mission-driven organizations, guided by a belief that “the right person in the right place can change the world.”

With over 20 years of experience in executive search and organizational development, Bouton has built senior leadership teams at leading national and international organizations and partnered closely with founders, boards, and donors to deepen the impact of today’s most pioneering mission-driven organizations. In addition to executive search, Katie’s areas of focus include leadership development, recruitment and retention best practices, company culture, purpose driven organizations, and diversity initiatives.

Bouton began her career in the public sector as a human resources generalist at the Institute for Teaching and Research on Women and the Women’s Law Center of Maryland. She then moved to the private sector, working as a human resources manager at Edelman Public Relations and ChildrenFirst.

A widely sought-after thought leader around issues of leadership, diversity, and inclusion, Bouton was a finalist for EY’s prestigious Entrepreneur of the Year 2018 New England program, and is a Boston Brava Award Winner from SmartCEO, which recognizes high-impact women business leaders. With a strong commitment to civic and women’s leadership, Bouton serves on numerous boards, and currently serves as Chair of the Board of IGNITE, a bipartisan initiative committed to building the next generation of female political leaders. She also sits on the boards of The Home for Little Wanderers and her alma mater, the College of Liberal Arts at the University of New Hampshire, and serves as a corporator of the Newburyport Bank. In addition, Bouton is a Fellow at Pipeline Angels, a network of new and seasoned women investors that is changing the face of angel investing and creating capital for women social entrepreneurs. She is also a member of the Massachusetts Women’s Forum, a community of top women leaders from all sectors of society.

In his role as Chief Operating Officer, Stephen S. Morreale oversees all financial, operational, technology, and administrative functions at Diversified Search. He plays an integral role in the firm’s day-to-day operations, and in its expansion efforts within the U.S. as well as in the management of its global partnership with AltoPartners, where he serves as chief liaison to the international partners. Major firm initiatives he has led include the acquisition and staffing of four U.S. offices and the first U.S.-hosted meeting of the international members of AltoPartners.

Morreale’s prior experience in corporate finance includes serving as Executive Vice President, Chief Financial and Administrative Officer of Management Recruiters International, the permanent staffing division of CDI Corporation, a NYSE company. Earlier, he served as Senior Vice President and Corporate Controller for Right Management Consultants, also an NYSE company. He began his career as a Manager with the accounting firm Ernst & Young before joining Diversified as Chief Financial Officer, serving in that role from 1993 until 2003. He re-joined the firm in 2006 as Chief Operating Officer.

A CPA, Morreale is a member of both the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants. He is also a Global Board Member of AltoPartners. He is a former board member of the Russell Byers Charter School, and he and his wife, Gina, serve on the Parents Council of Schreyer Honors College at Penn State, his alma mater.

Mazza began her career with Diversified—and with the search industry itself—in 1981 as the company’s very first Director of Research, over time developing, refining, and managing the company’s key research and recruiting functions and processes. Over her years at Diversified she has been responsible not only for the oversight and management of the firm’s researchers, recruiters, and databases, but perhaps more important, for their quality as well.

In her current role, Mazza is responsible for the planning, administration, and monitoring of consistent search quality within the firm, and for continually seeking improvements in operations that can achieve even more effective and efficient searches. Just as important, she is responsible for inculcating cultural imperatives—the very values that guide Diversified—to both our employees and our clients. In addition, she conducts select searches as designated by the Chairman and/or CEO; investigates and reviews new methodologies and technologies; and oversees the firm’s internal talent management, from identifying and recruiting in-house professionals across administrative functions to developing, implementing, and assessing processes related to employees’ orientation and onboarding, training, performance, and compensation.

Mazza is a Certified Practitioner of MBTI (Myers-Briggs Type Indicator) and has completed the Leadership Program of The Leaders Lyceum. A member of the Philadelphia Film Society, she was also a Founding Member of the Philadelphia Executive Search Research Roundtable.

Lionel Anderson is a Managing Director in the Education, Nonprofit, and Arts and Culture Practice at Diversified Search, where he partners with colleges, universities, foundations, and nonprofits to understand their leadership needs, prepare for leadership transition, and identify, vet, and onboard talent into executive leadership roles.

Anderson began his career in executive search at Isaacson, Miller, where he recruited senior leadership for colleges, universities, and foundations. Within higher education, he has focused on presidential searches. His previous clients include the Chemical Heritage Foundation, the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving, Morehouse College, New York University, Northeastern University, Smith College, Temple University, Tuskegee University, University of Bridgeport, and University of Louisville.

For roughly a decade prior to search, Anderson served in various capacities in undergraduate student development, including serving as the Assistant Director in the Office of Academic Resources at Haverford College and as an academic adviser, adjunct instructor, and student retention coordinator at the Fox School of Business at Temple University. As an inaugural board member of TeenSHARP, a nonprofit college preparatory program for promising low-income students in Camden and Philadelphia, Anderson led efforts to fund the organization’s early college tours with students, while also publishing seasonal op-eds with The New York Times around undergraduate student success.

Victor Arias is a Managing Director at Diversified Search, working primarily in the Board of Directors practice. He is the leader of the firm’s Dallas-Fort Worth office and Co-Practice Leader of the Consumer and Retail practice.

Arias joined the firm in 2019 from RSR Partners, where he had been a managing director in the board of directors practice. Prior to his time at RSR, Arias worked at Korn Ferry, where he served as senior client partner in the board of directors practice and global leader of the Diversity and Inclusion Initiative. Previously, he served as both a partner and a co-managing partner of the diversity services practice at Heidrick & Struggles from 2004 to 2007. Arias was also previously a partner at Spencer Stuart.

Arias served on the board of Popeye’s Louisiana Kitchen (NASDAQ: PLKI) for 15 years, until 2016. He is past president and co-founder of the National Society of Hispanic MBAs, a former member of the Notre Dame Institute of Latino Studies board, and a founding board member of the Latino Corporate Directors Association, a membership group of Hispanic corporate directors.

Arias is a trustee emeritus for the Stanford University board of trustees, the current chairman of the Stanford Latino Entrepreneurship Initiative, and a prior member of the Stanford GSB Advisory Council. Chris Berger joined Diversified Search in 2017 to co-lead the firm’s Human Resources practice, after seven successful years as co-owner of the successful boutique HR executive search firm RomanoBerger LLC. Berger brings close to 20 years of executive search experience focused in the Human Resources arena, and 10 years in HR on the corporate side. He has completed hundreds of senior executive search assignments across all functional areas of human resources and across multiple industry sectors. His clients have ranged from Fortune 50 multinationals to startups.

Berger entered the executive search profession in 1999 when he was recruited into Korn/Ferry International’s Human Resources practice, and quickly became a leading member of the execution team. Several years later, he co-founded the Human Resources practice at TMP Worldwide (later Highland Partners). When TMP was acquired by Heidrick & Struggles, Berger was recruited to further develop the HR practice at CTPartners.

Berger began his career at May Department Stores, completing the company’s highly regarded Executive Training Program. He served briefly as an assistant buyer before entering human resources, where he led merchant training, corporate communications, college relations, and executive recruiting for a May division. In 1995, he was recruited by Melville/CVS Corporation, where, as HR Generalist, he recruited leadership roles before becoming Vice President of Corporate Human Resources and Staffing. Berger was briefly recruited back to the corporate side during his search career to become head of the executive recruiting for insurance giant Aetna.

Karen Bertrand leads the Biopharma and Diagnostics practices at BioQuest, which was acquired by Diversified Search in 2016. She has more than 20 years of experience recruiting CEOs, senior management teams, and board members for a wide range of both established and emerging life science companies.

Bertrand is passionate about recruiting for companies that are developing breakthrough technologies and leveraging innovation in related fields like nanoparticle technology and biomaterials. The leader of the firm’s Board practice, J. Veronica Biggins  brings more than 15 years of search experience to the firm—including several years working in the White House.

Biggins served as Assistant to the President of the United States and Director of Presidential Personnel under Bill Clinton, a role that tasked her with selecting and hiring all political appointees within the federal government. She worked directly with the President on appointments at all levels of the administration, including the placement of agency heads, ambassadors, and members of presidential boards and commissions.

Biggins has also served as Vice-Chairman of the U.S. Delegation to the United Nations Fourth World Conference on Women in Beijing. She also served as Chairman of the Czech Slovak American Enterprise Fund—a role that earned her a Points of Light Award from President George W. Bush for her leadership.

Biggins’ background also includes 20 years’ experience with NationsBank (now Bank of America) and its predecessor, The Citizens, and Southern National Bank. There, as Executive Vice President for Human Resources, she was one of the highest-ranking women in the banking industry.

Working with a portfolio of blue-chip international clients such as Kraft, Duracell, McKinsey, AC Nielson, Guinness, and SmithKline Beecham, she managed key business assignments across the United Kingdom.

Prior to her search career, Boreham held various business and marketing leadership positions with the largest and fastest-growing division of Baxter Healthcare, Inc., where she was responsible for launching a range of product lines that gained worldwide recognition, and more recently as Business Manager for the Critical Care division at Johnson & Johnson, where she was responsible for the development of a patient monitoring technology product in the provider healthcare space.

Molly Brennan is a Managing Director at Diversified Search, and is the co-leader of the firm’s Education, Nonprofit, and Arts and Culture Practice. She also serves as the Founding Partner and Executive Vice President at Koya Leadership Partners, which was acquired by Diversified Search in 2019 and is now included in The Diversified Search Group, a portfolio of wholly-owned boutique search firms serving specialized sectors.

At Diversified Search, Brennan works with co-Practice Leader Andrew Wheeler to marshal the forces of both firms’ deep experience in the nonprofit and higher education sectors to deliver stellar results for clients.

Brennan joined Koya Leadership Partners in its early years, and today leads a portfolio of CEO, President, Executive Director, and other senior executive searches for mission-driven clients across the country and around the world. Her clients have included Amnesty International USA, Habitat for Humanity, Sierra Club, Drug Policy Alliance, Heising-Simons Foundation, Feed the Truth, and Natural Resources Defense Council, among many others.

Her particular areas of focus include leadership, retention, and diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives. Her thought leadership has been widely quoted and published in leading publications such as Stanford Social Innovation, and Philanthropy News Digest, and Fast Company, as well as by the Society for Human Resource Management.

Brennan began her career as a newspaper reporter, then moved into the online communications space. Prior to joining Koya, she served as an Editor at LifeWorks, one of the nation’s leading Employee Assistance Programs, where she partnered with HR leaders to create custom content designed to improve employee engagement and satisfaction. Prior to joining Assertio, he served as the Chief Operating Officer for Sommetrics, Inc., a Vista, California-based company that develops and markets technology for better sleep.

Schineller’s career in healthcare technology and bioscience began at Abbott Laboratories, where he began as a sales representative and rose through the ranks to become the Director of Western U.S., Managed Health Care. After spending four years as a Vice President at Dura/Elan Biopharmaceuticals (Elan acquired Dura), he then co-founded Verus Pharmaceuticals, where he served as the Senior Vice President of Sales & Marketing, eventually overseeing a team of 70. He has helped architect and implement large-scale operational transformations at some of the largest hospital systems in the United States, and has provided subject matter expertise to hospital leaders in the United Kingdom, Canada, and Germany.

In 2008, Stout co-founded the McKinsey Hospital Institute (now Objective Health), a technology-enabled consulting solution for hospitals within McKinsey. There, he grew the team to nearly 40 employees and led all product development and client service. Managing Director

Andrew C. Wheeler is a Managing Director and the leader of the Education, Nonprofit, and Arts and Culture practice at Diversified Search, as well as being an active member of the firm’s Healthcare Services Practice. He also serves as the firm’s Chief Transformation Officer. Previously, he was the firm’s Chief Lean Officer, driving process improvement initiatives to deliver more value to clients.

Wheeler’s clients have included research intensive institutions, liberal arts colleges, academic medical centers, faith-based social service agencies, museums, and federated nonprofit organizations. Prior to joining the firm in 2003, he spent four years with Heidrick & Struggles. Passionate about finding the right individuals who can make a significant impact for mission-driven organizations, Wheeler has spent his entire career discovering and assessing leaders.

Earlier in his career, Wheeler worked as the Assistant Dean of Admissions at Bowdoin College in Maine, where he managed student volunteers, reviewed applications, and recruited prospective students. He worked in the creative and technical staffing industry for HireKnowledge, effectively leading its Philadelphia, New York, and San Francisco offices.

He has written two case studies for the Harvard Graduate School of Education.

Kyung H. Yoon is a Senior Advisor at Diversified Search, joining the firm in 2018 and working primarily in the technology and consumer and retail sectors, with a particular emphasis on CEOs and boards. A former vice chairman of Heidrick & Struggles, Yoon is the CEO and founder of the Silicon Valley-based Talent Age Associates, where she has developed talent strategies for the Fortune 500, multinational corporations, and mid-cap/venture-backed companies in the technology, fashion, consumer, lifestyle, and financial sectors.

While at Heidrick, Yoon led the firm’s expansion in Asia, managing its Singapore, Tokyo, Hong Kong, Taipei, Shanghai, and Seoul offices. At Diversified Search, she works closely on cross-border search work through the firm’s membership in AltoPartners, the leading international alliance of retained executive search and leadership consulting firms.

Prior to joining Heidrick, Yoon served as President of Benten Investments, Inc., in San Francisco; President of Pacific Union Management in San Francisco; and Vice President of Dillingham Development Co. in Honolulu. She began her career at BNP Paribas. She is also the Co-Founder and Partner of the Executive Board Exchange (EBX), the premier community for corporate director and board engagement. She currently serves as a board director of the global fashion group MCM Worldwide, board director of Give2Asia, council member of the Stanford Center on Longevity, and as an advisory board member of Translink Capital. Previously, she served on the boards of Silicon Valley Bank; several venture-backed technology companies, including Mobile Money Ventures (a joint venture between Citi and SK Telecom); and several nonprofits, including Harvard University’s Kennedy School Women’s Leadership Board. Born in Seoul, Korea to a diplomatic family, she grew up in Seoul, Washington, D.C., and Paris, and is fluent in English, French, and Korean, with literacy in Mandarin Chinese and Spanish.

Thomas Baker joined Diversified Search as Vice President and Senior Associate in 2019, working primarily in the Industrial practice. He boasts two decades of experience in executive search and talent acquisition.

 

Before joining Diversified Search, Baker was a Managing Associate in the Industrial practice at Korn Ferry. There, he was responsible for full life-cycle recruitment and served as a Subject Matter Specialist in their Chemical and Materials Sector (which included refining, chemicals, performance materials, paper and packaging, and construction materials). Prior to Baker’s time at Korn Ferry, he spent over ten years as a Dallas-based Executive Search Consultant within Russell Reynolds Associates’ Global Chemical and Process Industries practice. He focused primarily on the execution of general management, manufacturing operations, and research and development assignments.

 

Baker began his executive search career with Ray & Berndtson.  His search experience included work in a variety of functions and diverse industries such as medical devices, consumer products, and technology.  He began his career with IBM in their Marketing and Service Operations.

Corina Benitz is a Vice President and Senior Associate at Diversified Search. She joined the firm as a Research Associate in 2018.

Prior to entering the executive search field, Benitz worked as a Development Associate for the Board of Directors of the National Symphony Orchestra at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. There she was responsible for, among other things, Board management, major gift donor engagement strategy, and planning of fundraising events and the annual orchestra gala. Her research experience in this role included the identifying, researching, and profiling of prospective Board members and donors.

Benitz began her professional career in the arts world, first as a Sales and Client Relationship Manager for a prominent Virginia sculptor, and subsequently as a Sales and Auction Associate at The Potomack Company, an Alexandria, Virginia antiques and fine arts auction house.

Prior to joining Diversified Search in 2019, Charny was most recently a Vice President of Client Management for Rudish Executive Search, headquartered in Boca Raton, Florida. Eve hired, coached, and oversaw a virtual recruitment team; and created and executed multi-faceted sourcing strategies, including identifying relevant research tools and social media channels.

Prior to her time at Rudish, Charny spent 17 years with InSearch Worldwide (which in 2008 became Allegis Partners) in Stamford, Connecticut. There, she worked as a Principal, managing client relationships and driving senior- level searches across a broad range of functions, including marketing, human resources, digital, technology, strategy, operations, customer service, business development, finance, compliance, and account management. She also led both US-based and international recruiting and sourcing teams.

MacLean “Mac” Craig is a Vice President and Senior Associate based in the New York office of Diversified Search, working primarily in the technology sector.

Craig’s career in search began at Coleman Research Group in New York, where he worked as a Research Associate and Recruiting Associate in the firm’s Technology, Media, and Telecommunications practice. There, he performed primary research services for various institutional clients, including over 200 hedge funds, private equity firms, and management consulting firms.

Prior to joining Diversified Search in 2019, Craig worked as a Consultant in the technology practice at Marlin Hawk. In addition to co-leading numerous C-suite searches in the health provider space, Donovan brings extensive experience in physician executive and medical group management searches. She has particular strengths in the areas of organizational dynamics, candidate assessment, and capturing relevant market intelligence. Terryl Holzinger is a Vice President and Senior Associate in the Southern California office of Diversified Search. She boasts more than 20 years of experience in the executive search industry, with a specialty recruiting top executives in the life sciences, internet technology, consumer technologies, and manufacturing sectors.

Prior to joining Diversified Search in 2019, Holzinger served as an executive search consultant for Witt/Kieffer, where she helped co-found the firm’s Life Sciences division. Prior to that, she served as a director and consultant at CT Partners, where she also concentrated in life sciences.

Holzinger began her career in the search industry with The Culver Group, based in Tustin, California, before moving on to a role as Senior Corporate Recruiter and finally Director of Global Talent Acquisition at Ask.com, where she played an integral role in defining the company’s global talent acquisition strategy, including lead generation in both Europe and Asia.

In addition to her executive search bona fides, Holzinger is also an ICF-certified leadership coach and has administered both the Hogan and Myers-Briggs psychometric assessments.

Vice President, Marketing and Communications

As the Vice President, Marketing and Communications, Michael Callahan is responsible for the internal and external communications, public relations, marketing and events, advertising, and thought leadership of the firm, including oversight of Diversified’s website and social media channels.

Early in his career, Callahan worked as a public relations writer at the Philadelphia Gas Works before spending the next two decades in magazine publishing, most notably as a writer and editor at Hearst and Condé Nast. Before joining Diversified he served as an editorial consultant at ChatterBlast Media, a Philadelphia-based social media marketing firm. He is currently a contributing editor at Vanity Fair magazine, and his articles have appeared in such magazines as Bloomberg Businessweek, Worth, and Fortune Small Business. He is also the author of two critically-acclaimed books of historical fiction.

Callahan has served as an adjunct professor of journalism at Fordham University and Temple University and has received numerous journalism awards. His work has also been anthologized in The Best American Legal Writing 2009 and Vanity Fair’s Writers on Writers (2016).

As Vice President, Database and Technology, Millie Francis is responsible for managing all of Diversified Search’s technology infrastructure and data systems.

She has been with the firm for more than a decade. Before that, she spent 13 years working for a variety of executive search agencies, including three years with LexMedia Solutions, are retained executive search firm specializing in media industries. She has also worked as an independent database consultant, and spend years at Smith and Sawyer, a New York-based executive search firm.

Liz Magnotta is Diversified’s Vice President-Finance and manages all financial reporting and operations. She handles all of the day-to-day operations for the firm’s nine offices nationwide, including financial reporting, insurance, audit and tax compliances, and accounts receivable and accounts payable functions. She also serves on the firm’s Finance Committee.

Magnotta has over 35 years of financial executive experience, including in not-for-profits, professional services firms, privately held businesses as well as for-profit enterprises. She began her career with the accounting firm Elko, Fischer, McCabe & Rudman, where she served as a Manager in the Accounting and Auditing Division.

Anne Ravert is the Vice President, Human Resources at Diversified Search. Prior to joining Diversified in 2017, she served as the human resources manager at both law firm Simon and Simon, and AC Lordi, a consulting firm. Prior, for more than nine years she worked at Campbell Soup Company, where she began as a member of the tax practice, eventually shifting her focus to employment issues, specifically around the issues of employee and executive compensation, the employee stock plan and its structure, and, additionally, communications related to global compensation and talent management.

An active supporter of the arts, Ravert recently completed a term as a member of the Board of Directors of BalletX, the contemporary ballet company in Philadelphia; she has also served as a member of the steering committee of the Crescendo Club, a young friends’ philanthropic arm of the Curtis Institute of Music. She is currently actively involved as chair of the annual fundraiser of The Print Center of Philadelphia, a nonprofit gallery that encourages the growth and understanding of photography and printmaking in contemporary art. Ravert is also an associate producer of Shaking Through, a documentary series produced by Weathervane Music, a nonprofit that supports independent music and the greater Philadelphia recording community.

In addition, she serves as an adjunct professor of business at Drexel University.
