After Helping To Guide A Merger Of Two Healthcare Behemoths, Milton Anderson Keeps Things Running Smoothly—and Efficiently—at New Jersey’s Largest Health System.

With $5 billion in annual revenue, 13 hospitals, and more than 33,000 team members and 9,000 affiliated physicians, RWJBarnabas Health is a sprawling, complex, and, yes, massive health system. But in 2015, when we placed Milton Anderson as the new Senior Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer, the organization was then Barnabas Health. As a key member of the leadership team, Anderson was one of the architects who designed and guided the strategic vision for identifying the ideal merger partner—Robert Wood Johnson Health System—that would eventually propel Barnabas into even greater prominence.


Anderson was asked to use his skills in human resources, board governance, organizational effectiveness, and business alignment to help launch the new RWJBarnabas Health in 2016. In his new role, he serves as Chief Administrative Officer and Executive Vice President, Management Services Administration, supporting President and CEO Barry H. Ostrowsky in the day-to-day management of the system.


Anderson harnessed his vision and deep understanding of consumer behavior to launch the Management Services Administration, a new system-wide division comprised of six functions: Corporate Human Resources, including employee assistance programs; Corporate Foundations; Corporate Diversity and Inclusion; Corporate Marketing and Communications; System Patient Experience; and Corporate Partnerships. The intersection of all of these serves as the connective tissue that today holds RWJBarnabas Health together.
